Burrator Ward Plymouth Derriford Hospital Stroke Association charity walk

Hi guys, this is an unusual post for us, but I thought I would share it.  My wife (who is so very tolerant of my nerdy hobby she lets me do this blog) is a Nurse.  She works on a ward that deals with a lot of Stroke patients.  She stays late, misses breaks, and does her best day in and day out with the rest of her team to help all our loved ones.

Her ward and herself are doing a charity sponsored walk for the stroke association community on their day off

so what does this have to do with us gamers? and why aren't you showing us toys?? well.....

We believe in life after stroke. That’s why we campaign to improve stroke care and support people to make the best possible recovery. It’s why we fund research into new treatments and ways to prevent stroke. We are a charity, and rely on your support to change lives and prevent stroke. Thank you.

I know as gamers we all enjoy our hobby and fun, and I am so proud that some of you come here to read our ramblings.  Now and then we have a chance to do something good, so how about instead of buying that one extra model we help out.  Strokes are scary, I hear all about when the wife comes home, how sad she can be sometimes telling about her day.

So what is a stroke?

A stroke is a brain attack. It happens when the blood supply to part of your brain is cut off.

Blood carries essential nutrients and oxygen to your brain. Without blood your brain cells can be damaged or die.

This damage can have different effects, depending on where it happens in your brain.

It can affect the way your body works as well as how you think, feel and communicate.

Different types of stroke

Most strokes are caused by a blockage cutting off the blood supply to the brain. This is an ischaemic stroke.
However, strokes can also be caused by a bleeding in or around the brain. This is a haemorrhagic stroke.
A transient ischaemic attack or TIA is also known as a mini-stroke. It is the same as a stroke, except that the symptoms last for a short amount of time and no longer than 24 hours. This is because the blockage that stops the blood getting to your brain is temporary.

What causes stroke?

As we age our arteries become harder and narrower and more likely to become blocked. However, certain medical conditions and lifestyle factors can speed up this process and increase your risk of having a stroke.

Can you recover from stroke?

All strokes are different. For some people the effects may be relatively minor and may not last long. Others may be left with more serious problems that make them dependent on other people.
Unfortunately not everyone survives – around one in eight people die within 30 days of having a stroke. That’s why it’s so important to be able to recognise the symptoms and get medical help as quickly as possible.
The quicker you receive treatment, the better your chances for a good recovery.

Now the stroke association say.... We believe in life after stroke. That’s why we campaign to improve stroke care and support people to make the best possible recovery. It’s why we fund research into new treatments and ways to prevent stroke. We are a charity, and rely on your support to change lives and prevent stroke. Thank you.

So go here guys, every pound helps, it doesn't have to be much, it doesn't have to be anything, but share it, its for a good cause that can effect us all.  Even Olivia the monster is joining in the walk!

Thanks for reading this guys, I really appreciate you taking the time to look,  normal service will resume next week!
