Star Wars Armada Arquitens class Imperial light cruiser unboxing and review

Star Wars Armada from Fantasy Flight Games is an excellent game, bringing large scale ship combat to your tabletop, and I have been a fan since I  first played it, and certainly an Imperial player, so seeing the new wave of releases I wanted to see what it adds to both factions, so lets start with the Empire, and the Imperial light cruiser.

As seen in the Star Wars Rebels television show, the Imperial light cruiser is a communications and blockade ship used to help the Empire spread its domain throughout the galaxy. In Star Wars™: Armada, the Imperial Light Cruiser Expansion Pack presents this ship as a fast, small-base Imperial vessel that excels at providing long-range fire support from its broadsides. With its ship, its two ship cards, eight upgrades, and all requisite accessories, the Imperial Light Cruiser Expansion Pack will have you racing around the Rebels' flanks and into a new era for Imperial tactics!

So lets pop it open and see what we get, and what it adds to the game........

As with all FFG items for armada, you get all the tokens, ship stands, and plastic bits and pieces you need to field your ship, so you get plenty of token popping fun when you open her up.
As always yo get two variants to chose from, the light cruiser, or the comman cruiser, with some subtle differencves in firepower dice, and in squadron commands, and anti squadron fire.  he is pretty speedy, and very nimble, certainly for an imperial ship, and carries a respectable amount of firepower for her size too, with some solid long range broadsides, and a 2 shield all around.  She really adds something the lumberring Star Destroyers have missed, by providing speed and manouverabilty and firepower making her a great escort vessel and more than capable of going hunting lighter rebel ships alone.
We get a new admiral option with Moff Jerjerrod who can let a frindly ship take damage to increase its yaw, very handy for getting those lumbering ships turnign fast, and with good enginering skills it can be repaired too, so he can help make make your list more mobile, so is a worthy addition.

Minister Tua can add the ion upgrade to your ships unlocking some new potential combos.

Damage control officer can help you negate some criticals... Engineering team we have seen before, they are handy and add another point for your engineering, useful when you use the new admiral who can cause damage to your own ships.  Reinforced blast doors can be discarded to remove 3 damage from your ship, very very handy! Dual turbolaser turrets can be exhausted whilst attacking to add ared dice to the pool at the cost of removing a dice, handy when you have rolled a blank for sure.

Lastly we get two name cards.... the Hand of Justice can be exhausted to allow a ship in range 1-5 to ready one of its defences, and the Centicore that helps ships when they activate a squadron action, as they can be in medium range of you, so you can help push them.

Though not the largets model around, the ship is of course well detailed, and nicely painted.
It also has the classic imperial lines to it, like a mini star destroyer but tweaked just right
This really is an excellent pack, and a must have if you are an Imperial player, it adds a fast moving nimble ship with good firepower and opens up many more list building options.

With an RRP of £18.99 you get a smaller ship that can still pull her weight, and really add to the Imperial forces options with a fast nippy ship, so head on over to your local game store and grab yourself a pack.
